BIRMINGHAM – Mohammad Ahsan experienced swelling in his left knee. This was stated by the PBSI doctor who handled the athletes at the All England 2023, dr. Grace Joselini Corlesa.

“Earlier he was examined on the field by the match doctor, then after awarding the medal he met me. The condition of his left knee was already starting to swell, so I did not carry out further examinations first,” said Grace, quoting from a PBSI release, Sunday (19/3 /2023).

Grace added that after further examination, her party gave anti-pain and inflammation drugs. For a while Ahsan had to use a tool (cane) to walk.

“The action was to immediately compress with ice and then I gave them anti-pain and anti-inflammatory drugs too and tapped and (used) a stick,” he continued.

Ahsan suffered an injury while playing in the 2023 All England final. At that time, Hendra Setiawan’s partner lay on the field when he faced Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

The injury he experienced occurred when Ahsan / Hendra fell behind 14-20 in the second game. After being checked on the sidelines by the match doctor, Ahsan decided to continue the match and return to playing. He chose to finish the match which left one more point for the Fajar/Rian pair.

Ahsan seemed to have difficulty walking after the game ended. The 35-year-old badminton player even needs a wheelchair to get off the court.

Even when presenting the medals and trophies on the podium, Ahsan was seen being helped to walk by Fajar/Rian. On the podium, he kept leaning on Hendra so he wouldn’t fall.

Grace explained that the treatment for Ahsan’s injury would be carried out as soon as possible. Furthermore, how will be determined after checking upon arrival in Indonesia later.

“Considering that Ahsan is planning to return to Jakarta tonight, so we are asking for help here and at the airport to provide a wheelchair. Upon arrival in Jakarta, we will follow up further for an MRI examination,” said Grace.
