MANCHESTER – Manchester City will host Burnley in the 2022/2023 FA Cup quarter-finals at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, Sunday (19/3/2023) at 00.45 WIB. Burnley coach Vincent Kompany was in the spotlight ahead of the match.
Kompany is a former Manchester City captain who has won 4 Premier League trophies, two FA Cups and 4 League Cups with The Citizens. He played 265 Premier League matches while defending Man City for the 2008–2019 period.
It is not surprising that Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola warmly welcomed Vincent Kompany at the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola described Kompany as one of the “greatest legends” he has ever managed. Yes, Kompany was still a Man City player when Guardiola arrived in 2016.
“He is an extraordinary figure here. He is one of the biggest legends I have,” said Guardiola as reported by the BBC.
The 52-year-old joked, “But I’m a little worried because when you take charge against the players you have on the sidelines, you realize how old you are!”
Guardiola also praised Burnley who have scored 74 goals in 37 matches in the 2022/2023 Championship league. They have only conceded 29 gold and have only lost twice in the Championship. They have not lost since November 5th.
“From what I’ve seen, I’m not at all surprised by their position or what they have done in the Championship,” said Guardiola.
“They will be a very tough opponent because they do amazing things on the pitch. They are very close to being a Premier League team again. The way they play is amazing.”
Meanwhile Guardiola also talked about the big impact of Ruben Dias.
The Spaniard was amazed by Dias’ performance on and off the field. According to Guardiola, the 25-year-old player is a figure with a high leadership spirit. Guardiola was also impressed by Dias’ discipline.
