Indonesian mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati apologize for failing to advance to the 2023 All England/PBSI final
BIRMINGHAM – Indonesian mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati apologized for failing to reach the 2023 All England final. Rehan/Lisa were eliminated by the Chinese pair Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiao in the top 4 round at the Utilita Arena, Birmingham, England, Saturday (18/3/2023) evening WIB.
Rehan/Lisa surrendered in a battle of three games 17-21, 21-13, 13-21 for 1 hour. The defeat extended Rehan/Lisa’s record of never winning against the world number 1 to 0-3.
However, Rehan/Lisa are ready to rise from defeat. They admit that they have gone all out against Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiao, but have not been able to overcome it. However, this match was better than the previous two meetings against them.
“Sorry we haven’t been able to give the best today, but we are ready to get up, want to prove it again,” promised Lisa, quoted from the PBSI release, Saturday (18/3/2023).
Lisa said that she and Rehan had prepared well to challenge the first seed. They have learned a lot from their last meeting against Zheng/Huang. Rehan/Lisa have already anticipated what to do in the last match of the day.
“Earlier we met at the India Open (losing 16-21, 9-21). We evaluate the game by strengthening the defense because, right, they play continuously attacking, pressing continuously so they anticipate the defense,” explained Lisa.
Rehan/Lisa managed to hold off Zheng/Huang in the first game. There was a chase after the interval, before the Chinese pair ended the first game with a 21-17 lead.
In the second game, Rehan/Lisa played looser. Despite trailing 8-11 at the interval, the world number 15 pair was able to overtake Zheng/Huang on points and end the second game with a 21-13 lead.
In the deciding game, Zheng/Huang’s experience made the difference. The Chinese duo eliminated Rehan/Lisa from the All England 2023 by winning the third game 21-13.
“We want to play all out, keep trying before the ball falls to the floor, which means it’s not over. Wherever we go, keep trying anyway,” said Rehan.
