LONDON – Chelsea failed to gain three points after being held to a draw by Everton in the 2022/2023 English Premier League. Having twice excelled, The Blues -nicknamed Chelsea- bit their fingers after Ellis Simms’ late goal ensured the match ended 2-2 at Stamford Bridge, London, Sunday (19/3/2023) early morning WIB.

This result has kept Chelsea in 10th place in the 2022/2023 Premier League standings with 38 points from 27 matches. Chelsea won 10, drew 8 and fell 9. Meanwhile, Everton is in 15th position with 26 points, only two points ahead of the relegation zone occupied by West Ham United.

The Blues were unable to score in the first half. Despite having more than 70% possession, the tight defense of Everton left Graham Potter’s Army deadlocked.

A new goal tap opened in the second half. Joao Felix broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute with a low shot that hit the post.

However, Everton responded well to falling behind. The Toffees -Everton’s nickname- replied through Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 69th minute. Doucoure maximized Dwight McNeil’s corner to make it 1-1.

However, after that Chelsea won a penalty when James Tarkowski brought down Reece James in the 6th minute’. Kai Havertz who became the executioner released the ball into the top corner which made Jordan Pickford jump the wrong way.

However, the victory that was before the eyes of the Blues evaporated due to Ellis Simms’ goal. His shot beat Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the 89th minute.

“It’s about patience, I just have to wait for my chance. We have top players so I won’t jump straight into the team, I have to work hard and take my chance when I get it,” Everton striker Ellis Simms told Sky Sports.

“It’s a big belief, we work hard in training, stick together and stick together when things get tough. We went behind today but fought back for an equaliser.”
