BUENOS AIRES – The enthusiasm of the fans watching the Argentina national team appear so extraordinary. Tickets for Argentina’s first match since they lifted the 2022 World Cup trophy sold out in record time. Team Tango will face Panama in a friendly match.
According to Reuters, more than 1,500,000 people tried to buy despite the high ticket prices in a country currently struggling with rising inflation.
The match between Argentina vs Panama will be played on March 23 at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires. The country’s largest stadium has a capacity of 83,000 spectators.
Ticket prices, ranging from 12,000 to 49,000 Argentinian pesos, or the equivalent of Rp. 900,000 to Rp. 3.7 million, have not reduced demand by queuing online for as many as 1,550,000 people.
The desire to watch Lionel Messi et al also spread to the local and international press. President of the Argentine Football Association Claudio Tapia said requests to cover the Argentina vs Panama match were the highest in history with more than 131,000 requests for accreditation.
“We want to be able to fit all of them, but we need two River (Monumental) stadiums, only for journalists. Madness for Argentina is absolute,” Tapia said on Twitter.
The friendly will be Argentina’s first game in front of their home crowd since beating France on penalties in last year’s World Cup final in Qatar to win the title for the first time in 36 years and sparked massive celebrations across the country.
Argentina also host Curacao on March 28 in Santiago del Estero Province in front of 30,000 fans.
