BIRMINGHAM – Viktor Axelsen surprisingly failed in the last 16 of the All England 2023. Indonesian men’s singles, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting said the competition would still be difficult even without the singles number 1 owner.

Axelsen was unexpectedly eliminated by Malaysia’s representative, Ng Tze Yong. The match which was held at the Utilita Arena, Birmingham, Thursday (16/3/2023) that night ended 15-21, 21-9, and 21-23 in 69 minutes.

It is believed that the founder of the Danish badminton player will benefit other participants. Many say the chances of winning for other contestants will increase.

However, Ginting admitted that Axelsen’s absence had not changed anything for him. “It doesn’t matter if there is Viktor (Axelsen) or not, there are other players who are just as heavy,” he said.

“I don’t want to think too far, try to focus on one game at a time, pretend it’s a final,” Ginting continued from the PBSI release.

Ginting advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating the Indian representative, Prannoy HS. The youth from Cimahi won through a rubber game 22-20, 15-21, 21-17.

“Earlier, Prannoy’s opponent was also strict in his party. So, as much as possible give all out what has been trained in Jakarta,” said Onik, known as Ginting.

Ginting is the only remaining Indonesian men’s singles at the All England 2023. Three other representatives, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, Jonatan Christie and Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, have already fallen.

“When I entered the field, my focus was only on that match. No one thought that I was the only representative in the men’s singles or anything else,” said Ginting.

In the quarter-finals, Ginting will face Axelsen’s compatriot, Anders Antonsen. They had met six times before.

Ginting was able to win five times and only lost once to Antonsen. This certainly gives him the opportunity to advance to the semifinals.
