SEOUL – South Korea announced that it will build the world’s largest chiset center using an investment of USD 230 billion or the equivalent of Rp. 3.5 quadrillion from Samsung Electronics.

The facility will consist of five manufacturing plants located in Yongin, a city in the Seoul Capital Area.

“Speed is important. The government will make every effort to realize the cluster project. The factories will be completed by 2042,” Yoon said as quoted by TechSpot, Friday (17/3/2023).
South Korea’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) has also announced plans for the massive facility as part of a project to invest USD 422 billion or IDR 6.2 quadrillion by 2026 into six key technology areas.
The six fields in question include semiconductors, electric vehicle batteries, autonomous vehicles, robots, displays, and biotechnology.
A total of USD 260 billion or IDR 3.9 quadrillion is set aside for the semiconductor sector, including the establishment of the world’s largest semiconductor megacluster, the development of next-generation core technologies, as well as foreign technical cooperation and export support.
Interestingly, companies will also be offered tax breaks and infrastructure support by the government.
For your information, the South Korean government will add USD 19 billion (Rp 292 trillion) for R&D, USD 275 billion (Rp 4.2 quadrillion) for chip packaging, and USD 76 billion (Rp 1.1 quadrillion) for infrastructure as part of the plan.
