Putin and Jinping meet in Moscow, “Friends of the heart” discuss the fate of the war in Ukraine
It took a lot of prayers, but finally, Xi Jinping has decided to walk the red carpet laid out for him by Vladimir Putin.
From March 20 to 22, the Chinese President will make a state visit to Moscow, the 40th in the history of his special relationship with the Kremlin leader.
During the year of the war in Ukraine, he found time to personally meet the friend of the heart, as they have referred to each other, only once during an international summit in mid-September.
And in that case, Putin was forced to publicly state that his Chinese counterpart had expressed concern over the Ukrainian issue.
As it was announced, the two leaders will discuss comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation while a number of bilateral documents are expected to be signed.
During the state visit to Russia, President Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping will exchange views on bilateral relations and major international and regional issues of common interest.
Beijing stressed that it would maintain an objective and fair position regarding the war in Ukraine and would play a constructive role in promoting peace talks.
Beijing has offered proposals to end the war, which have been received lukewarmly by the West. But Ukrainian President Zelensky has said that he wants to meet with Xi Jinping to discuss the Chinese proposal.
American media reports that Xi will speak virtually with Zelensky after his visit to Russia, but this has not yet been confirmed.
