MANCHESTER – Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag is wary of Sevilla when they clash in the 2022/2023 Europa League quarter-finals. The Dutch tactician admitted that Sevilla has qualified experience in the Europa League.
Drawing (draw) of the 2022/2023 Europa League quarter-finals at the Home of European Football, Nyon, Switzerland, Friday (17/3/2023), brought together
Manchester United against Sevilla. Other parties, Juventus vs Sporting CP, Bayer Leverkusen vs Union Saint Gilloise, and AS Roma vs Feyenoord.
After eliminating Real Betis in the round of 16, Man United faced Betis city rivals, Sevilla, in the last eight.
Sevilla is the record holder for winning the Europa League (UEFA Cup) six times. After knowing that Sevilla was the next opponent to face, Ten Hag also wanted Man United to be vigilant.
“We are back in Seville and as you said a very good record, we have to be aware of that,” said Erik ten Hag as quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Friday (17/3/2023).
Ten Hag also believes Sevilla will be a difficult challenge. Even so, Ten Hag is looking forward to playing the Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla. Man United will also appear at home in the first leg which will be held on April 13, 2023.
“It will be difficult, they are very experienced in the Europa League, won it many times,” continued the Dutchman. “I don’t know the team in detail but for me the most important thing is football and I’m not looking forward to Sevilla.”
Sevilla is the fourth Spanish team that Man United has faced in European competition (Real Sociedad, Barcelona, Real Betis and Sevilla). Previously, Leeds United also did the same thing in the 2000/2001 Champions League (Barcelona, Real Madrid, Deportivo and Valencia).
