GUADALAJARA – Saul Canelo Alvarez will try to defend his WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super middleweight titles when he faces John Ryder.
The fight between the two will take place at Akron Estadio, Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico on May 6 2023.
This is the second time Canelo will fight to defend the title. Previously he defeated Gennady Golovkin in a trilogy in Las Vegas in September 2022.
In addition, Canelo is back to performing in his birthplace after the last time this happened 12 years ago.
Canelo Alvarez will compete with a record of 59 wins, with 39 of them being knockouts and two defeats.
Meanwhile, his opponent, Facing Ryder, has a record of 32 wins, with 18 KOs and five defeats.
Canelo had his reasons for choosing Guadalajara to face Ryder. He said he wanted people who didn’t see him fight to see him live in Guadalajara.
“The first thing I said to Enrique Alfaro (Governor of Jalisco) when we talked about the fight here,” Canelo said, quoted by Marca.
“That I want people who can’t afford tickets or people who can’t go to Las Vegas to watch my fight can have the opportunity to see me fight here in Guadalajara,” he continued.
