BIRMINGHAM – Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan qualified for the semifinals of the All England 2023 through a dramatic battle against the Chinese duo, Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi. The Daddies -nicknamed Ahsan / Hendra – won in a three game battle at the Utilita Arena, Birmingham, Friday (17/3/2023) evening WIB.
Ahsan/Hendra took 56 minutes to get rid of Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi in the quarter-finals with a score of 16-21, 21-19 and 21-19. Having lost in the first game, The Daddies made a brilliant comeback in the next two games to win.
In the semifinals of the Super 1000 tournament, Ahsan/Hendra will meet another Chinese representative, Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang.
In the first game, Ahsan/Hendra stepped on the gas by taking the initiative to attack to lead 6-1. However, they several times gave away free points to their opponents so that the score was tied at 7-8.
The world’s second ranked pair was able to put pressure on Liu/Ou again thanks to Hendra’s stunning game at the net. They walked away again with an 11-8 advantage in the first game interval.
After the break, Ahsan/Hendra continued to control the game. However, the opponent, who is ranked 5th in the world, was able to catch up with them to even the score 14-14.
Liu/Ou earned six additional points to take the lead 18-14. They beat Ahsan/Hendra in the first game with a score of 21-16.
In the second game, The Daddies had a 5-2 lead. But the opponent got four straight points to turn things around at 6-5 although then the score returned to 6-6.
Ahsan/Hendra were able to get away again with a score of 11-8 and widen the lead to 14-8 after the interval. However, Liu/Ou never gave up and evened the score to a 19-19 draw. However, the three-time world champion was able to get two additional points at critical points to take the second game with a 21-19 victory.
In the deciding game, numbers were chased until the score was 3-3. However, Ahsan/Hendra trailed 3-6, and the Chinese pair won 11-5 at the interval.
The Daddies struggled to catch up and slowly closed in on just one point at 16-17. Ahsan / Hendra leveled the score at 19-19. Then, turned 20-19 ahead until finally able to win 21-19.
