LONDON – WBC heavyweight belt holder Tyson Fury has turned down an offer to fight IBF, WBO and WBA champion Oleksandr Usyk. Boxing promoter Alexander Krassyuk said Fury was not ready to fight.
Although there is no agreement yet, it is rumored that the duel between Fury and Usyk will be held this year at Wembley Stadium, England. The two are said to be boxing on April 29, 2023.
The offer given to Fury is a 60/40 split for the winner of the duel. This means that whoever wins the duel will go home with more income than the loser.
“Initially we agreed with 50/50, but Fury then asked to pay more. So, we offered a 60/40 split, with the record that the winner gets 60. That was our last offer,” said Krassyuk, quoted by Metro, Thursday (9/3) /2023).
Even though Fury rejected the offer, he believes that one of the most anticipated clashes will happen. According to him, it is possible that Fury is not ready to compete in the near future.
“I have experience with this. Usually, when a boxer doesn’t want to accept an offer to fight, they will ask for something that doesn’t make sense. Fury didn’t ask for that, so I’m optimistic,” concluded Krassyuk.
“Maybe Fury isn’t ready mentally and physically right now. I don’t know, I don’t know and I don’t care,” he continued.
Despite the rejection of the offer made, Krassyuk really hopes that the duel between Fury and Usyk can take place. However, if indeed The Gypsy King – nicknamed Fury – turns him down this time, he believes one day the time will come.
