Police General Prof. Drs. H. Muhammad Tito Karnavian, MA, Ph.D. born in Palembang, South Sumatra on October 26, 1964 and is now 58 years old. Before becoming the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito was a high-ranking police officer who served as the National Police Chief.

His own figure includes a policeman who managed to get promoted quite quickly. While still holding the rank of AKBP, Tito successfully led the Detachment 88 team in crippling terrorists, namely Dr. Azhari. The incident occurred on November 9, 2005 in Batu Malang, East Java.

In addition, Tito has also led a special police team that succeeded in dismantling the terrorist network led by Noordin M. Top. For this achievement, he was promoted to Police Brigadier General (Brigjen) and appointed Head of Densus 88 Anti-Terror Police Headquarters.

Tito’s career continued to climb and even served as the Head of the Papua Regional Police and the Head of the Metro Jaya Regional Police. He was appointed Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency on March 14, 2016.

Tito was then appointed as National Police Chief by President Joko Widodo on 13 July 2016. With that position, he became the fastest graduate of the 1987 Police Academy with the rank of four stars.

Then Tito retired early as National Police Chief because he was trusted by President Jokowi to serve as Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) for the 2019-2024 period. He is said to be the first member of the National Police to occupy the chair.

Became the Main Target of the 1999 Terrorists

Tito claimed to be the main target of the 1999 terrorists. He told this on the Cabinet Secretariat’s YouTube podcast on February 25, 2023.

Apart from himself, Wiranto is also on the list of terrorist targets. At that time, Wiranto held the position of Commander of the Armed Forces with the rank of General.

After that, Tito spoke with Wiranto, offering a special escort for security reasons. But Wiranto rejected Tito’s offer because he felt he already had sufficient guards.
