JAKARTA – It is certain that the U-20 Indonesian National Team will not hold a long-term training camp (TC) in the Netherlands. Garuda Nusantara coach – nicknamed the U-20 Indonesian National Team Shin Tae-yong plans to transfer training to his home country, South Korea.
Garuda Nusantara needs a training camp to finalize strategy, physique and teamwork to face the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia on May 20-June 11 2023.
The U-20 Indonesian National Team has just appeared at the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan. Garuda Nusantara was eliminated in the group phase after finishing third in the Group A standings. Indonesia has scored 4 points, after the last game against hosts Uzbekistan ended 0-0 at the Istiqlol Stadium, Tuesday (7/3/2023) evening WIB.
The U-20 Indonesian National Team is in third place on the standings with a collection of four points. They lost head-to-head and the goal difference included Iraq U-20 who qualified as runners up despite having the same points.
PSSI Technical Director Indra Sjafri explained that the location of the long-term training camp (TC) for the Indonesian National Team could change. Initially, the long-term TC after the U-20 Asian Cup was planned to be held in the Netherlands, but it is likely that it will be held in South Korea according to the recommendation of the Garuda Nusantara Squad coach – nicknamed the U-20 Indonesian National Team – Shin Tae-yong.
Regarding future plans for the U-20 Indonesian National Team to prepare for the 2023 U-20 World Cup, Indra Sjafri said he would have further discussions with Shin Tae-yong.
“I want a meeting with Coach Shin. Referring to the initial roadmap, there will continue to be (TC). Originally the TC was planned in the Netherlands, but it was canceled and coach Shin wanted to change it to Korea (South),” said Indra Sjafri in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/3 /2023).
The man who is also the coach of the U-22 Indonesian National Team said he did not know the exact reason the coach had chosen South Korea. However, what is certain is that the Garuda Nusantara Squad will benefit a lot from the TC.
“Specifically, I don’t know the reason for going to South Korea. However, it is good for improving physical condition there,” said Indra Sjafri.
Indra Sjafri said South Korea was not a new destination for the U-20 Indonesian National Team. Because, Dony Tri Pamungkas et al had TC in Ginseng Country last year. “Have practiced there for a month. The players are used to training there,” he concluded.
