JAKARTA – The U-22 Indonesian National Team, which is being prepared for the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, has completed the first phase of the training camp (TC). Coach Indra Sjafri sent 17 players home and summoned 17 new players for the second stage of TC in Jakarta on March 10-16.
The first stage of TC was held from March 1 to 8. In the first stage TC involved 34 players. However, 17 players were sent home after undergoing strict selection from the U-22 Indonesian National Team coaching team.
Indra Sjafri said the second stage of TC would still be attended by 34 players as needed. Currently his team has sent home 17 players and called in additional players for the second stage of TC.
“We have assessed the 34 players who entered the first stage through three trials, physical tests, psychology, IQ tests, and others, as well as their progress during the training camp,” Indra said as quoted from the PSSI website, Wednesday (8/3/2023) ).
“Players we consider to be of good quality, we will continue TC until March 16.”
Indra Sjafri, who also serves as the Technical Director of PSSI, said that the selection for the Garuda Muda squad – the nickname of the U-22 Indonesian National Team – was very strict. Because he wants to build a team according to the set criteria in order to compete in the 2023 SEA Games, 5-17 May 2023
“The quality of our current players is almost more than half. That’s what we expected,” he said.
Indra Sjafri said the 34 players would again undergo selection again in the second stage of the TC. Certainly the competition in the selection will be more stringent later.
“So, 17 players have been reduced from 34 players and 17 players are still surviving. Their quality deserves to be part of this team. However, they will compete again with 17 other new players in the second stage of TC later,” he explained.
