NATO chief’s warning: Russia may take Bakhmut in the coming days

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned today that Bakhmut could fall in the coming days, even though Russian forces are suffering heavy losses.

Speaking to reporters ahead of a meeting of European Union defense ministers in Stockholm, Stoltenberg said Russia lacks quality but is making up for it with quantity.

“They have suffered great losses, but at the same time, we cannot remove as an option that Bakhmut may eventually fall in the days that will follow,” said the head of NATO.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said earlier this week that his troops would continue to defend the city despite intense Russian pressure and heavy losses.

Also, he said yesterday in an interview for CNN that if Russia succeeds in taking Bakhmut, the way will then be open for other cities in the Donetsk region.
