TUSCANY – A clumsy urologist is under investigation for mistakenly amputating a patient’s penis after he misdiagnosed it as a tumor.
The 30-year-old surgeon is accused of causing serious injuries to an unnamed patient from the city of Arezzo, in Italy’s Tuscany region.
He performed the operation at the San Donato Hospital in Arezzo on November 13, 2018.
This came after the doctor misdiagnosed the patient, believed to be in his late sixties, a month earlier.
The procedure was carried out without a hitch, but during analysis of the amputated penis, it was quickly revealed that there was no tumor.
The mentally broken patient is now seeking compensation from careless medics for the mutilation.
The case will undergo a preliminary court hearing scheduled for March 9 in Arezzo.
A similar case was reported in France in December last year, after a series of errors resulted in the “total removal” of a man’s penis at the University Hospital of Nantes.
The man, who is reportedly in his 30s, said the operation left him with only his testicles and “no feeling” where his penis used to be.
