FERGANA – Coach Shin Tae-yong is not disappointed even though the Indonesian U-20 national team (Timnas) was eliminated from the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup. According to him, the Garuda Nusantara squad has presented its best performance.

Arkhan Fikri et al must be willing to be in third place in Group A of the U-20 Asian Cup with four points. As a result, the Red and White team failed to advance to the quarter-finals

Indonesia U-20 had to run aground due to a 0-0 draw with Uzbekistan U-20. Because, in another match, Iraq U-10 also shared a 1-1 result against Syria U-20.

In fact, Indonesia can qualify if it wins 1-0. However, until the match which took place at the Istiqlol Stadium, Fergana, Tuesday (7/3/2023) was over, no goals were created.

Indonesia U-20 is still below Iraq U-20 due to losing on goal difference and also head to head. Previously, they lost 0-2 to Iraq U-20 and won 1-0 over Syria U-20.

Shin admitted that the match against Uzbekistan U-20 was quite crucial because if his team won, they could qualify for the next round. However, the draw was good enough for Indonesia U-20.

Because, Uzbekistan U-20 is more favored than Indonesia U-20 in that match. They benefit from being the host where they get support from the fans.

“Yes, in this match we played well against the hosts. In fact, we didn’t bring any key players,” Shin said during the press conference.

The South Korean coach stated that he is now providing support to Uzbekistan. He hopes they can excel at the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup.

“Congratulations to Uzbekistan for qualifying for the quarter-finals. We wish them success in this event,” he concluded.
