FERGANA – The U-20 Indonesian National Team will face host Uzbekistan in the final match of Group A qualification for the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup at the Istiqlol Stadium, Fergana, Tuesday (7/3/2023). The victory opened the opportunity for Garuda Nusantara to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Indonesia’s position is not safe in the Group A standings because Iraq is still in second place even though it has the same 3 points. Indonesia is ranked 3rd, while Uzbekitan topped with 6 points after defeating Iraq, Saturday (5/3/2023). Syria, which swallowed two defeats in a distended position.

Group A’s final match will be exciting because three teams have the chance to qualify for the quarter-finals. Indonesia faces Uzbekistan and Iraq faces Syria. If Indonesia wins over Uzbekistan and Iraq beats Syria, the three teams will reap the same points: 6.

If that scenario occurs, then according to the regulations in force in determining the rankings, points will be tallied in head-to-head matches between teams that have the same points.

Currently Indonesia is under Iraq because on a head-to-head basis, Indonesia lost after surrendering 0-2 to Iraq in the opening game. If the head-to-head is equal among the 3 teams then the total goal difference is calculated between them.

Regarding Indonesia’s chances against Uzbekistan, Coach Shin Tae-yong acknowledged the strength of the home team which is seeded in Group A, but the Garuda Nusantara Squad -nicknamed the U-20 Indonesian National Team – is not daunted.

“Overall, the Uzbekistan U-20 players were very good. They also received support from the fans because they were the hosts,” said Shin Tae-yong Shin Tae-yong in Fergana, Monday (6/3/2023).

The former coach of the South Korean national team said that Indonesia should not be afraid because self-confidence has grown after winning 1-0 over Syria U-20 in the second match. Maximum preparation for the national team to challenge Uzbekistan U-20.

“We will show our best against U-20 Uzbekistan. I motivate the players to make them stronger. Prepare the team to the maximum.”
