Blinken Welcomes Visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken welcomed his Lithuanian counterpart in Washington on Monday (6/3).
Main on the agenda for their talks will be Ukraine and that country’s war with Russia which has just entered its one year anniversary.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year, three countries in the eastern wing of NATO, namely Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, which suffered decades of Soviet-era occupation, have been of great help to Kyiv.
The visit by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergi comes as the German defense minister arrives in Lithuania to visit German troops units in the Baltic republic followed by talks with government leaders.
Germany has maintained its combat brigade in Lithuania since last fall in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. [my/rs]
