VLADIKAVKAZ – Murat Gassiev surprised the boxing world with his spectacular victory. The Russian boxer won the WBA Intercontinental heavyweight title after defeating unbeaten boxer from the United States Mike Balogun at the Karen Demirchyan Complex, Yerevan, Armenia, Friday (3/3/2023).

The former IBF and WBA cruiserweight world champion knocked out Mike Balogun, who had never lost in 20 matches, in the second round.

Throughout his professional boxing career, Murat Gassiev won 30 wins of which 23 won by knockout, and one loss.

Murat Gassiev’s first defeat occurred against Oleksandr Usyk from Ukraine on 21 July 2018. After that defeat, Gassiev began to recover and recorded four consecutive wins. Starting from the victory over Nuri Seferi in 2020.

After that, Murat Gassiev won against Michael Wallisch in 2021, Calrouse Welch (2022), and finally against Mike Balogun.

Murat Gassiev started his professional boxing career since September 21, 2011. His debut was a huge success by defeating Ukrainian boxer Roman Mirzoev in the fourth round in his hometown, Manezh, Vladikavkaz, Russia.

His first title came in 2013 when the boxer nicknamed Iron defeated Levan Jomardashvili to claim the WBC Youth world cruiserweight title.

On February 1, 2014, Gassiev won the championship belt again after destroying veteran Belgian boxer Ismail Abdul. For this victory he won the IBF cruiserweight title for East/West Europe.
