The reason is, the retired general called on America to destroy the Black Sea Fleet or Russian bases in Crimea if Moscow uses nuclear weapons in its war on Ukraine.
On Wednesday, General (Ret.) Ben Hodges, former commander of the US Army in Europe, said Washington could destroy Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, which is based in Crimea, or its base on the Crimean peninsula if Moscow uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

Hodges warned Russia that the US strike was devastating. He said it was highly unlikely that Russian President Vladimir Putin would order the deployment of nuclear weapons.
Without naming names, Medvedev, Russia’s former president and Putin ally, warned; “Retired idiots with general lines should not try to intimidate Moscow by claiming that NATO could invade Crimea, a peninsula that largely chose to unite with Russia in 2014 after the coup in Kiev.”
“[Rudal] hypersonics will definitely hit targets in Europe and the US more quickly,” Medvedev said, as quoted by Russia TodayFriday (23/9/2022).
On Thursday, Medvedev confirmed Moscow could use nuclear weapons to defend Russia’s new territories, including the Donbass republic and the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions, if the Ukrainian territories decided to join Russia through a referendum.
Writing on Telegram, Medvedev stressed that the referendum, which is planned for September 23 to 27, will definitely take place, and the republic of Donbass and other regions will be welcome in Russia.
The former president went on to say that the Russian military would significantly strengthen the defenses of all the territories it joined. “Russia can use not only its mobilization capabilities, but also any Russian weapons, including strategic nuclear weapons,” he said.
