Metro.Suara.com – Two residents of Rumbia Subdistrict, Central Lampung Regency, were arrested by the Directorate of Water and Air Police or Ditpolairud Polda Lampung, for illegally mining sand in the Pegadungan River in the Rantau Jaya Ilir Village area, Rumbia District.
Along with the suspects, Wahyudin (42) and Zarkowi (36), the police also confiscated a number of evidences for their crimes. These include two barges, a number of equipment and two machines to extract sand from the river, up to 18 cubic meters of sand from illegal mining.
When they were brought to the Ditpolairud headquarters on Tuesday (20/9/2022) afternoon, the two suspects admitted that they had been doing illegal sand mining for two years.
“Sand from illegal mining is sold to local residents outside the city, sand is sold at a price below the average price of sand in general with an advance order system,” said Director of the Polairud Directorate of the Lampung Police, Kombes Sis Mulyono in his official statement to the crew. media.

The arrests of the two suspects were made after reports of the community being uneasy about the illegal sand mining practice in their village, and the police are still looking for other suspects in their syndicate.
The two suspects were charged with Article 158 of Law No. 3 of 2020/ concerning mineral and stone mining/ with a threat of 5 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp. 100 billion.
