The Red Bull Racing racer made a lot of people flabbergasted. Verstappen became the champion despite starting the race from outside the top 10 at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit, Sunday (28/8/2022).
Verstappen actually became the fastest in the qualifying session. However, he received a penalty for changing the engine and was forced to start the race from 14th.
However, that did not stop Verstappen’s pace. Amidst the chaos of the first round, he immediately rose to eighth place. He admitted trying to avoid trouble.
“The first round was quite busy and I tried to avoid problems. Many things happened in front of me. Once the situation calms down after the Safety Car, the car can drive stably,” said Verstappen
Once conditions calmed down, the Dutch passport racer was able to overtake his rivals. He also managed to lead since the 18th round, and won.
The result made Verstappen very satisfied. He also admitted that the results made him more eager to win. Especially after starting from the 14th position.
“I chose the right place to overtake and we were able to keep the tires. We’ve been outstanding all weekend,” said Verstappen.
“I can’t imagine a weekend like this. Now, I want it more and have to keep working hard,” concluded the Dutch racer, quoted by Racing News 365.
