The US military announced today that it conducted a test of the “Minuteman 3” intercontinental ballistic missile, a test postponed to avoid escalating tensions with China, during maneuvers that Beijing conducted near the coast of Taiwan.
The missile test demonstrates “the readiness of US nuclear forces and demonstrates confidence in the striking power and effectiveness of US nuclear deterrence policy,” the US military said in a statement.
Officials said that about 300 tests of this nature have been carried out in the past and the current one is not related to any particular international development.
In April, the U.S. military canceled another intercontinental ballistic missile test to reduce nuclear tensions as Russia launched an attack on Ukraine.
The “Minuteman 3” missile, produced by the Boeing company, capable of being equipped with nuclear warheads, is one of the main missiles of the American nuclear arsenal.
It has a radius of over 9,600 kilometers and moves at a speed of over 24,000 kilometers per hour.
