TANTRUM – Many people talk about a mother named Santi Warastuti from Sleman, Yogyakarta, along with her son Pika who suffers from “cerebral palsy” or a disorder that affects the ability to coordinate one’s body, taking a peaceful demonstration in the Hotel Indonesia roundabout area, Jakarta on Car Free Day (CFD), Sunday, June 26, 2022.
General Chairperson of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI) Adib Khumaidi said the current use of medical marijuana still requires in-depth study or research to ensure patient safety and security.
The research process must include various stages including the collection of existing scientific journals for reference, data analysis, to the clinical trial stage.
“We have to really review this because whatever is given to us, especially medicine, there will definitely be side effects and that must be our concern,” Adib said in Jakarta, Monday, July 4, 2022.
He emphasized that new drugs must be based on clinical evidence. Thus, it is necessary to study whether these drugs can be used as the main drug, supporting drugs that are given together with other drugs, or alternative drugs if previous treatment has not been successful.
“We have to understand this because in the management of a disease there is a golden standard, which one we have to treat and which one to treat. Everything goes through an evidence-based process,” explained Adib.
Adib said DI is ready to collaborate with the Ministry of Health to collaborate in making a scientific study on medical marijuana so as to make a study based on research on this.
“But most importantly, of course, we have to do treatments that have become the golden standard. I think later we can also involve experts, such as pharmacology experts, to carry out this study,” he said.
