He blamed a “lack of control” after more than 50 immigrants were killed while being smuggled into Uncle Sam’s country. This is the deadliest human trafficking case in modern US history.
Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday (28/6/2022), one day after dozens of migrants were found dead in a tractor trailer near San Antonio, Texas, Obrador said the deaths were a “tremendous tragedy.”

He added that such incidents occurred because of poverty and desperation, as well as the chaotic environment along the border.
“That’s because there is human trafficking and a lack of control, in this case on the Mexico-US border, but also in the interior of the US,” the Mexican president said.

US law enforcement officials told CBS that, “The incident appears to be the deadliest people-smuggling case in modern US history.”
Local authorities in Texas raised the death toll to 51 on Tuesday afternoon (28/6/2022).
