Most recently, the three countries committed to starting a new trilateral cooperation in the field of hypersonic and counter-hypersonic, electronic warfare capabilities, as well as to expand information exchange and deepen cooperation in defense innovation.
“The recent announcement of further progress in the AUKUS defense partnership underscores how the partnership will help maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region and provide reassurance for regional partners,” said British Ambassador to Indonesia and East Leste Owen Jenkins in a statement, Wednesday (13/4/2022).
According to Jenkins, AUKUS is not intended for any country.
“AUKUS makes a positive contribution to regional security and, as we have always made clear, will be fully in line with our international obligations, including upholding the highest possible standards of non-proliferation,” he said.
“The three partners take their obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty very seriously,” he added.

According to Jenkins, Indonesia has a special place in the Indo-Pacific region. It will continue to be actively involved with Indonesia to shape the future of the Indo-Pacific as an open, stable, and inclusive region, with ASEAN as its center.
“ASEAN’s vision for the Indo-Pacific region, as set out in the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, is one that we strongly support and we look forward to working with Indonesia, along with other ASEAN member countries, in ensuring stability and security. , to create a safer and more prosperous environment for future generations,” said Jenkins.
