Suara.com – Aston Villa today announced the sacking of Dean Smith from the post of head coach, just two days after the team lost 1-0 to Southampton.
The result was the fifth straight defeat suffered by Villa, who this season has won just three of 11 matches in the 2021/2022 Premier League.
Smith is the third Premier League manager to be sacked in the past week, after Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Farke at Norwich City.
Smith’s dismissal ended his tenure which began in October 2018. He successfully brought Villa to a promotion ticket to the Premier League in his first season, before appearing in the 2019/2020 English League Cup final.

“After a great start last season, this year we have not seen continuous improvement in terms of results, performance or standings,” said Villa CEO Christian Purslow.
“For this reason we decided to change now so that the new head coach has time to make an impact.”
Villa are currently 15th in the standings having just ten points from eleven games played.
The result was more or less influenced by the death of Villa’s game, Jack Grealish, who was bought as the Premier League’s most expensive player by Manchester City.
Villa tried to compensate for Grealish’s departure by bringing in Emiliano Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings, but the move has been relatively fruitless on the pitch.
