This exercise is designed to improve planning and joint processes at the operational staff level in responding to a crisis. The exercise also enhances positive military relations, ensures security and stability in the region, enhances cultural understanding, and increases command and control capabilities.
This activity is the ninth iteration of the GEMA BHAKTI program, which in Indonesian means “Echoes of Good Deeds.” USINDOPACOM and TNI are planning for a scenario involving US military forces, both Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines as well as their TNI partners.

“This year’s exercise has refreshed the relationship between the TNI and the US military, especially in the midst of the COVID pandemic and all the mitigations implemented,” said Stephen F. Tuesday (28/9/2021).
“The experience gained during a tabletop exercise focused on transferring from peace enforcement to peacekeeping is invaluable. In the last nine years, the GEMA BHAKTI Exercises have grown and increased in complexity. GEMA BHAKTI combines staff training with various scenarios,” he continued,

This exercise focuses on planning and coordination related to Peace Enforcement Operations and Peacekeeping Operations, including Maritime Security (MARSEC), transnational threat management, and Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Response (HA/DR).
