Due to disagreement with the division of the broadcast contract, De La Hoya and Canelo broke up. The split resulted in lawsuits and since then former six -class world champion De La Hoya has asked Canelo to face him in the ring.

Now De La Hoya reacted when asked who would win in a fight between men if the two were ‘in their prime’. ”Are you kidding? Let’s duel.”
Canelo split from Golden Boy Promotions De La Hoya in 2020 after alleging breaches in the £280m blockbuster broadcast deal he signed with DAZN. The lawsuit alleges Golden Boy and DAZN caused losses of at least £216 million.
With the four-class champion no longer part of his management, De La Hoya later called out Canelo and taunted him for ‘only having power’. As recently as July, the 48-year-old was still talking about a potential fight with a man 17 years his junior.

But De La Hoya has since turned his attention to calling out his former rival Floyd Mayweather for a possible payday. Canelo next fights American Caleb Plant on November 6 in a bid to unify the super-middleweight division.
The pair recently got into a fight at the pre-fight press conference, with Caleb Plant suffering a cut to his face from Canelo’s shock punch. Canelo is angry that Caleb Plant insulted his mother face to face.
