Indonesia is in Group C of the 2021 Sudirman Cup with Denmark, Russia and Canada. Viktor Axelsen et al are considered the strongest opponent and should not be underestimated.
If we dissect more deeply about the strength of Denmark, in the men’s singles sector, there are two very capable players, namely Axelsen and Anders Antonsen. Both are currently ranked second and third badminton players in the world.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Axelsen won a gold medal after defeating Chen Long in the top party. Meanwhile, Antonsen could only reach the quarter-finals because it was beaten by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.
When viewed from the meeting record, Axelsen is fairly balanced with the two Indonesian men’s singles, Ginting and Jonatan Christie.
The 27-year-old player recorded four wins and four defeats from Ginting. Meanwhile, when meeting Jojo – Jonatan’s nickname, Axelsen won with four wins and two defeats.
On the other hand, Antonsen had a poor record when he met two Indonesian men’s singles. He has lost four times and has never won over Ginting. Meanwhile, when he faced Jojo, he only won three times and lost four times.
Seeing the meeting record above, it seems that Denmark will prefer to lose Axelsen in the men’s singles sector when they meet Indonesia. Because, he has a great opportunity to contribute points for his country.
