“I worked well with George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump, but I can’t say we got off to a good start with Joe Biden,” Erdoğan said, referring to the three American presidents before Biden.
“After 19 years in office, I cannot say that we have reached a good position with the United States,” he said Daily Sabah, Friday (24/9/2021).

“The US should understand that Turkey will not back down from the S-400 deal,” he further said, referring to the Russian missile defense system Ankara bought, which has caused a dispute between Turkey and the US.
Answering a question about Turkey’s stance on the latest developments in Afghanistan, Erdogan also pointed out the US’ failure and indifference to the situation.
He underlined that the US made its decisions without seeking input from Turkey, and thus cannot expect Ankara to pay the price for the country’s irresponsible behavior.
“It is unthinkable for Turkey to open its doors and accept them (Afghan migrants). Our country is not an open corridor. It is not easy to accept such a thing. This action has a price and a cost.”
