IFSC boss apologizes to Johanna Farber for the announcer showing a close-up shot of the buttocks during the World Rock Climbing Championships in Moscow, Russia. Images of the beautiful 23-year-old athlete’s bottom were shown on television to thousands in his native Austria by national broadcaster ORF in September.

The IFSC issued a statement of apology to Farber and anyone offended by the incident. It read: “IFSC would like to sincerely apologize to Johanna Färber, Austria Climbing, all athletes and the entire Sport Climbing community for the images broadcast today during the women’s Boulder semifinals at the IFSC Climbing World Championships Moscow 2021 .”
IFSC President Marco Scolaris also criticized the broadcasters for their actions. As quoted by the Daily Mail, he said: “How many times do things have to be done wrong, before we learn how to do it right?”
“This is the second time ORF has enlarged Farber’s ass, with the first incident occurring during the World Cup in Innsbruck in June.”
ORF apologized at the time, writing: “We acknowledge that, for a moment, we chose to present the sport of rock climbing the wrong way.”
“We are committed to continuing to work for a fair, equal and better representation of women’s sport.”

Farber received multiple messages after the first footage was shown in June accusing broadcasters of sexually assaulting women’s sports. He wrote on Instagram: “Honestly, wtf? Showing this slow motion clip on National TV and YouTube livestream is so disrespectful and disappointing.”
“I’m an athlete and I’m here to show my best. I honestly feel really embarrassed knowing that thousands of people are seeing this. We have to stop sexualizing women in sport and start appreciating their performance.”
