According to a report by Sport Bible, Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, had opened up talks to return to the Spanish capital. However, not to Real Madrid but to Atletico.
However, the officials of Los Rojiblancos -Atletico’s nickname- refused to reach an agreement with Mendes. They believe the fans will give a bad reception for Ronaldo because of his status as a Madrid legend.
Ronaldo has played for nine seasons with Los Blancos – Madrid’s nickname. CR7 presented 15 trophies, including two Spanish League titles, four Champions Leagues and two Copa Del Rey.
Therefore, it is inconceivable how Atletico fans will react if the 36-year-old player moves to the Wanda Metropolitano. The reason is, his big name has been very attached to Madrid and has long been their rival in Spain.
CR7’s move – Ronaldo’s nickname – was indeed through a quite horrendous drama. He was also rumored to be returning to Madrid because he did not feel at home at Juventus.
However, the news was immediately dismissed by Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian said he had great respect for Ronaldo as a Los Blancos legend, but he had no interest in bringing him back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Finally, Ronaldo chose to return to Man United who had made his name in the world of football. In fact, a few hours before it was officially announced by the Red Devils, he was reportedly closer to joining Manchester City.
