The world’s Heads of State and Government from 21 to 27 September 2021 will take turns addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York either in person or virtually with pre-recorded speeches. These speeches were delivered according to the theme of the 76th UN General Assembly session: “Building resilience through hope – to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect people’s rights and revitalize the United Nations”.
Heads of state from America, Europe, Africa, to Asia, conveyed their country’s achievements in achieving sustainable goals in accordance with UN targets in various sectors. They also convey the challenges facing the country and the hopes as part of the international community.
President Joko Widodo, who gave a virtual speech at the UN General Assembly session on Wednesday (22/9) afternoon at around 16.40 local time, at the beginning of his speech said the world was waiting for the UN General Assembly to give an answer to the world’s main concern, when will the people be free from the pandemic, when the economy will recover and grow inclusively, how to protect the planet for future generations and when the world will be free from conflict, acts of terror and war.
President Jokowi also expressed hope that the world will be able to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic quickly, fairly and equally because no one can be saved unless everyone is safe.
At the opening session of the General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General stressed the need for greater urgency and ambition to end the pandemic and ensure a just and more environmentally sound recovery and accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In addition to the speeches of the heads of government, this annual UN meeting, marked by a series of UN international conferences and bilateral bilateral meetings between countries, is expected to highlight actions and solutions that will trigger the transformation needed to secure a healthy, peaceful and prosperous life for all according to the theme. this year’s UN General Assembly.
