Cheng Hoe admitted that he didn’t really think much about the results of the 2020 AFF Cup group draw, where Malaysia was in Group B with Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia and Laos. He said that because he felt he had fought the four countries quite often.
“I think the draw this time doesn’t look much different, because we often meet, even in the underage team. So, I think everyone is used to facing these teams,” said Cheng Hoe, quoting the official website of the Malaysian Football Federation (FAM).

However, he still cannot underestimate, especially Vietnam, which is the seed.
Besides Vietnam, Cheng Hoe is also wary of the Garuda squad. Because, he is well aware that Indonesia is the enemy of tradition from Malaysia. Historically, every time Indonesia and Malaysia met, the match would be fierce and hard.
“Of course we know Vietnam are favorites in this Group B and most importantly, we have to focus from one game to another. At the same time, we also need to focus not only on Vietnam, we know Indonesia is the enemy of our traditions,” he continued.
That’s why Cheng Hoe also made Shin Tae-yong’s squad into a team to watch out for. For the problems of Cambodia and Laos, Cheng Hoe also feels that Malaysia needs to be careful because both of them could make a surprise.
Moreover, Cheng Hoe also knows that Cambodia now has a number of talented players. While Laos is considered to still be able to provide difficulties. So, he really hopes that the Malaysian players will stay focused on each opponent.
